ELEKINESIS (Elemental Magic)

Etymology/Terminology

First deemed as magic since the first appearance on Archsphere, throughout history the common term of the abilities swayed through formality as elemental telekinesis. The modern term commonly used has been the simplified as the slang, elekinesis.

In common speech. When specifying a specific telekinetic ability the name of the race, or elemental, would be simply referred. (You wouldn’t say Light Elemental; just zalen)

Traditionally within the religious world, whether in homilies or text from the Equix (Octotheistic holy book) the term used would be the gift or gift of light, gift of fire, etc.

There is also a different terms used within the ASU (Archsphere Scientific Union) when specifying a specific race/elemental. The term for Light Elemental is photokinetic.

The term race does specify nationality or ethnicity but simply the specific element of the individual.

The term human was originally the name of the actual species Homo sapiens but throughout the history with the existence of elekinesis, the definition of the term has changed. The common name Homo Sapiens is Sapien. Human refers to any non-elemental, or non-elekinetic. So a human-dromea or human-cetacean are simply a dromea and a cetacean without any elekinetic traits.

Description

Elekinesis refers to any of the eight specific elemental traits obtained by an individual. The traits include both a psychokinetic link to specific element as well as supplementary physical attributes that overall benefit in conducting the specific element as well as adapting to an excess presence of that element.

Elekinesis is heritable yet the pattern of it’s inheritance is still scientifically unpredictable; the elekinetic traits are the only traits that do not follow the genetic laws of independent assortment and segregation. It has always been understood that there is a spiritual factor in the inheritance even that is very vague suggestion; the inheritance is just as unpredictable even amongst the generations of the most religious.

The actual telekinetic potential (TP) of elekinetics can range greatly. The ASU split’s the potential into 3 classes. Class I is the most common and the weakest. Class I individuals have just enough TP to successfully coordinate their element. With the four matter-based elements, the standard reference is that one cannot manipulate any more than their own body mass at once. On average between all elekinetics of all the species, 93% of all elekinetics are Class I.

Class II have a TP that is on average 100 times more than that of a Class I. Class II consist of about 6% of the known Elekinetic population.

Class III consist of the most powerful Elekinetics with a TP that goes over the scale. A single Class III individual alone is force of nature; a single class III individual can summon volcanoes or powerful storms. There are about 35 known individuals throughout Archsphere under this class.

The percentage of elekinetics per species varies. About 52% of the Sapien population are elekinetics. Dromeas have the lowest percentage (24%) while certain species of cetaceans have the highest (86%).

TRANSMUTATION (Conversion Magic)

Etymology/Terminology

From it’s appearance just over 200 years ago, it was first called New-Magic but as time went by and the essence of it became more and more understood there are several slang terms relating to this type, including shifting or conversion magic.

The ASU terms this overall ability as transmutation. Transmutation is split smaller categories or more accurately stated as disciplines. The three main disciplines include Alchemy, Lycanthropy, and Rauhllurgy.

The general term for an individual with a transmutation ability is a transmutants.

Description

Transmutation is the ability revolving around the psychokinetic spontaneous and direct alteration of the focused component, whether it is a particular chemical element, molecule, or present energy.

Simply stated, transmutants can convert one element into another, but they cannot telekinetically manipulate it, no matter what it is. Transmutants can, however, utilize their own body as a conversion medium where energy can be momentarily stored and then released as it’s chosen form. For example, a transmutant can absorb light from one hand transport the energy purely through their body and then release that energy into a flame. Such a trick can lead to the misconception that he/she is a brolen (fire-elemental). The transmutant can create the flame but cannot manipulate it and would need to constantly fuel it with the chosen energy source.

The ability transmutation has not confirmed to be hereditary. In fact there is mounting evidence that the ability is obtained purely from an environmental factor. Studies have shown that children and babies (still in the womb) exposed to the radiation of astronogen.

Astronogen is a unique subatomic particle scattered about surface of Archsphere. Based on scientific research, this subatomic particle appeared around the same time as the very first elekinetics;  It is theorized that the event of the appearance of astronogen led to the origin of elekinetics.

It has been noted by scientific data that the astronogen has been undergoing a steady radioactive decay. It is theorized that for the past two hundred years the astronogen on Archsphere as reached a specific “isotope” numeral in which present level of radiation it is emitting is causing the appearance of transmutants.

The only individuals that seem to become transmutants are humans. It has been confidently stated that elekinetics do not obtain transmutation abilities as well as their offspring. Transmutants do not obtain any supplementary physical attributes, unlike elekinetics.

A system to measure the level of a Transmutant’s potential is still in the works. What is known is that any Transmutant has the potential to perform any discipline of transmutation. But learning a discipline is extremely time-consuming, exhausting, and can be very dangerous if not fatal. Most individuals focus all their energy and time to perfect a specific discipline.

Alchemy - The transmutation of loose energy and inanimate matter. This is the most basic and elementary form of transmutation, but can also branch into some of the most complex. Every transmutant must learn the basics of alchemy to move onto lycanthropy.

Lycanthropy (also known organic alchemy or biological transmutation) - the transmutation of living organism. This discipline is significantly more difficult as it revolves around simultaneously altering all the DNA and proteins of the focused organism, which is usually transmutants themselves. Even a skilled lycanthrope is only known to master to shift into no more than two different animals.

Ruahllurgy (also known as Soul Alchemy and infamously known as Necromancy) - this discipline revolves around the transmutation of the most mysterious and wondrous substances known in existence, the spirit and soul. A ruahllurgist, or soulsmith, can alter, transfer, reuse, or recycle the spirit and soul. It is even said that a soul smith can convert any other form of matter into spirit-energy. This is by far the most difficult of the three disciplines. A soulsmith must have a great wisodm in Alchemy and Lycanthropy to perfect Ruahllurgy.

Spirit - A sort of “organized energy.” It is the life force in which every organism contains.

Soul - In short: a spirit with a self-conscious. The energy is much more condensed and has a higher capabilities. Any species with a population of elekinetics are considered to have a soul.

Soul Barrier - It’s a spiritual aura that protects an individual’s body and soul from magic directly. For example the barrier is the reason why an alcron (water elemental) cannot manipulate the water inside someone else’s body. But there is a way the barrier can be broken; the individual has to give full consent to the magic user. But once the magic user has access through their barrier, it is very hard to reject that magic user ever again. Essens, lycanthropes, and soulsmiths are the only ones to most likely take the soul barrier into account.

Yeah I set it up in that fashion and all because I do want to emphasize the "science" in the "science-fantasy" genre.

Though I do know I am taking it to a whole other level. I mean Star Wars is essentially a science-fantasy, but of course throughout the story you never actually go through with any fancy science terms and go into the actual engineering of all the technology...you just assume it's all scientifically feasble and if not...that's what the "fantasy" part is for, lol.

But yeah on Archsphere, technology varies greaty. Of course on Archsphere, high tech isn't in such high demand globally because a)when you have elemental powers, high tech doesn't really seem too needed and b)the major religion emphasizes an overall closeness to the natural world.

I'm always keeping the high tech as realistically feasable as possible. As I mentioned before the nation with the highest technology is just 20-100 years ahead of the real world...along with applications of using the magic.

I have this book The Physics of Superheros by James Kaklios. It's great ^^ It's gets into all the scientific detail of all the mainstream comic book superpowers, explaining whats possible how it's done. It's explain the subject of a type of superpower while keeping the "fantasy factor" in mind.

For example we have superman jumping over a 200 foot tall building. The actual physics would be calculation of how much force superman needs to exert to pull off the jump while the "fantasy factor" would be superman having the strength to make the the actual jump and the physcial retention to actually survive the fall unharmed. :nod: It's help me better understand how I can carefully apply magic with scifi and stuff.

But yeah ask away any questions you might have if I confuse with words. heheh ^^;
