How do the Light Elementals of Archsphere work?

There are two distinct aspect of each type of elemental - the psychokinetic abilty and the unique physical traits.

PSYCHOKINETIC ABILITY - Photokinesis: Manipulation of the direction, frequency, and amplitude of visible-light waves. They can bend the path of light, which includes separating and/or filtering white light into color(s) of choice. They could also focus light to a smaller point similar to a magnifying glass in the sun; the only difference is that the focused light won’t burn anything because they can’t focus heat. Just as they can focus light, they can also deflect it. This makes it possible for a Zalen to create the illusion of invisibility.

Recessive Cases - These are psychokinetic alterations of this element. Though elementals with recessive alterations possess the same physical attributes.

Red Shift Photokinesis: 1 in 5,000 zalens possess this alteration of photokinesis. The limited wavelength spectrum that they can manipulate ranges from only red light and infrared or heat; their range of psychokinesis is shifted to the left(red) side in reference to visible light. They psychokinesis include the same abilities as a standard Zalen, only the waves being bent in general is “heat.” Though Red Shift Photokinetics can easily concentrate heat to the point of combustion just like Brolens (Fire elementals), unlike the Brolens they cannot manipulate the actual heated matter (fire for example).

Blue Shift Photokinesis: 1 in 18,000 zalens possess this alteration of photokinesis. The limited wavelength spectrum that they can manipulate ranges from only violet light to ultraviolet rays; their range of psychokinesis is shifted to the right(blue) side in reference to visible light. They psychokinesis include the same abilities as a standard Zalen, only the waves being bent is overall “ultraviolet rays.” It’s possible for a Blue Shift Photokinetic to quickly damage living tissue when focusing their ability on something alive. Studies of a Blue Shift Photokinetics are few, but it has been suggested that their psychokinetic range could extend to being able to manipulate X-rays given the substantial source.

PHYSICAL ATTRTIBUTES

Zalen Sapiens - All Zalen sapiens, no matter their initial skin color, can easily tan, though the majority of zalen sapiens are dark skinned to begin with. Throughout the surface of their skin, they posses scattered photoreceptors which allow them to “feel” light.

They possess tiny bioluminescent cells on the palm side of their hands and fingers as well as the bottom of their feet which activate voluntarily, emitting a blue white glow which the brightness is also controlled at will; in other words their hands and feet and glow when they want them to (think of having built-in flashlights). In rare cases a zalen sapien would be born with bioluminescent lips.

Zalen sapiens have unique hollow hair follicles that grow in the area of the scalp that align with the forehead. The hair follicles are hollow and porous at the tip. At the base of these hair roots are clusters of bioluminescent cells. The light from the cell glow through the hair follicles giving the hair strands a glow only from the tip similar to that of fiber optic strands. The front area of their glowing hair can outline their entire forehead or be concentrated at the window's peak.

Unlike the palms of the hands and feet, the light from head hair is not voluntary (it always glow) and the brightness of the light directly reflects on their physical health; the lights of a zalen with an illness will glow extremely dim.

Zalen sapiens have unique modified features of their eye that allow them to see under an extreme range of light intensity; they can see well in dim light and can even stare straight into the sun for an extended period of time with little irritation.

Zalen Loxodons - Possess voluntary bioluminescent cells concentrated at the tips of their trunk. Voluntary bioluminescent cells also edge the top rim of their ears. Involuntary bioluminescent cells outline the skin around their tusks and lips in which the brightness reflects their physical health. Their eyes are also similarly adapted just like zalen sapiens.
