OPOC: Malcolm Armans T. by ~atmos00000:iconatmos00000:

Name: Malcolm Armans T.

Age: 21

Eyes: Dark Brown

Hair: Dark Brown

Skin: Fair (Hairy arms/chest)

Height: 6’3”

Clothing: Wears a pirate bandana of his crew’s Jolly Roger. He has a single gold earring on his left ear and general muddled pirate attire.

Background: The son of a barmaid, Malcolm Armans was born in Mocktown where he was raised throughout most of his younger years. His mother was very brash and not very sentimental; nonetheless she played her role as a parental figure. She managed to get Malcolm a job at the age of five (motivated in getting an extra income through him) and was the chef’s assistant where he obtained exceptional skills in cooking and handling knives (since the chef normally gave him the job to chop vegetables and other ingredients). As he got older, he was locally known as the best darts player in town. With just about any throw-able sharp object from actual darts to throwing knifes, he can nab a bull’s eye at any desired target.

Malcolm always knew he was unique from others for few reasons. Firstly, Malcolm could never learn how to swim. He never knew what would come over him – whether it was fear or shock, he just could not learn to swim. Then at the age of ten, making a long story short, he discovered he possessed a super ability. Malcolm can create temporary worm holes through the dimensions of space. Just by thought he could create a wormhole to any desired location within a limited but very large radius. Not having the most watchful parent, Malcolm had free range with his ability, either making his jobs and other errands easier to getting into an abundance of mischief.

At the age of 15, a small group of agents from the World Government came to the bar that his mother worked and announced they were looking to take Malcolm into custody. Malcolm got wind of the situation and managed to stay hidden from the agents for some time. However he learned that they had captured his mother and were going to execute her for the crime of being associated with a ruthless pirate. Malcolm quickly attempts to save his mother and runs into the agents.

They give Malcolm the offer of freeing his mother if he surrenders himself to the World Government. Asking them why they want to capture him, they reveal to Malcolm that he’s the son of Marshall D. Teach, the captain of the Blackbeard pirates. They told him of the devil fruit that Teach had consumed which was known as the most powerful fruit in existence. They kept spies in Mocktown when rumors spread that someone bore the son of Marshall D. Teach who was a Shichibukai at the time. It wasn’t until they learned of Malcolm’s ability that they knew who he was. To limit the potential power of Marshal D. Teach the World Government wanted to keep Malcolm from being discovered by his father. They even ensure their theory when they ask Malcolm if he ever ate a Devil Fruit (which he never did in his life). It showed that some Devil Fruit users with the most powerful abilities had the chance of passing abilities to other generations (it was genetic). Though it was hard to believe Malcolm makes the tough decision of surrendering and in the process the agents knock Malcolm unconscious.

When Malcolm came to he found himself on a remote island deep within the region of the West Blue. The island was a huge penal colony where they detained many criminals especially those who possessed Devil Fruit abilities. He learned from other prisoners that the unnamed island was made up a unique rock similar to the seastone. Unlike the seastone that would hinder the Devil Fruit abilities on contact, the island would acquire “ownership” as the locals described it. Those with Devil Fruit abilities could still use their powers on the island but their abilities would somehow backfire or even kill the user if they attempted to leave the island.

Malcolm learned the hard way when he attempted to escape the island himself several occasions. Any wormhole he created to connect off from the island (like to a distant ship out at sea) would immediately warp Malcolm back to the shore of the island. For 4 years he was stuck on the island forced into penal labor and just trying to survive. He kept his skills honed productively while working in the kitchen as frequently as possible and toughened up living among the harsh community of prisoners and abusive sentinels.

One day he was visited by a mysterious stranger by the name of Parther A. Henry. He told Malcolm that he knew who he was and that he could get Malcolm out of the island alive if he agreed to join his pirate crew. Malcolm was skeptical at first but when Parther stated that this was his only chance, Malcolm didn’t hesitate. Parther gave Malcolm a “prototype” serum that could free him from his island’s bind while retaining his powers. But Parther warned that the serum was untested and that he would be drinking it at his own discretion. Malcolm didn’t care and took the serum.

After drinking it, Malcolm felt a surge pain in his head. He always remembered the experience as if the island was trying to hold its grip on him.  After the intense migraine Malcolm quickly learned he was free from the island’s hold and escaped with Parther out of the island. Unfortunately, Malcolm gained his freedom with a price. After escaping he realized he was hindered with a side effect; Malcolm gained a tattoo(s) on his face that would seal half of his mental expressions at once and would alternate every time he warped himself. Ever since then Malcolm became Parther’s loyal first mate (and cook) keeping hopes on Parther’s promise to create a serum to cure the side effects of the tattoos. Malcolm adopted the name of his father but would refer himself as it initialed Malcolm Armans T. (Teach). Malcolm generally thrives for a life of freedom of adventure which is why he indulged himself with the life of a pirate. Malcolm is hardly a sensitive individual however he much prefers to avoid actions resulting in casualties and bloodshed. But he won’t hesitate to capture or detain individuals for Parther’s use of experimentation.

Summary of Malcom’s traits:

Malcolm has an ability that is fundamentally a branch of the Yami Yami no Mi fruit – an ability manipulating darkness and space to create wormholes. The greatest possible distance Malcolm can reach with the other end of a wormhole is within a 1-1.5mile radius. His wormhole ability does have a limited capacity. At once he can create a single long distance wormhole for a medium sized boat to travel through or create multiple tiny wormholes which he can use to redirect airborne throwing knives to travel various directions. He can also shift the entrance of a wormhole, just enough to engulf an object or person to another location.

He obviously can travel through the wormholes themselves, but every time he does, a different tattoo will appear from his left cheek to right cheek and the back again, which limits his ability to mentally express himself. So every time he warps himself a different side of his brain is sealed and unable to be “expressed.”

When he has a tattoo on his right cheek, expression of his “right-brain” is sealed and is only capable of expressing and performing tasks of the left brain. With the right tattoo he can only:
- express himself in a sequential, logical, and orderly manner.
- express himself analytically, being very detailed when speaking.
- fight strategically and discreetly. With this approach he can be very sneaky and calculating usually outwitting his opponents however he responds very poorly to surprises in this state and would usually be forced to quickly warp himself into his other state in such a circumstance.
- talk (express himself through speech).

When he has a tattoo on his left cheek, expression of his “left-brain” is sealed and is only capable of expressing and performing tasks of the right brain. With his left brain sealed, he is mute. Also with the left tattoo he can only:
- express himself in a spontaneous, creative, and unorganized manner.
- express himself intuitively and gets right to the point. He also expresses himself much more emotionally (his emotions whether positive or negative are much more obvious and exaggerated).
- fight in a very wild and unpredictable manner. He improvises while fighting and can easily dominate any direct close-range combat or other situation. He can often get caught in the moment and is less likely to warp into his opposite state when the situation calls for it.

Aside the disadvantage of expressing both brain hemispheres at once, the performance of his expressions are almost double than the average person.

Author's Comments

Here is my second OPOC: Malcolm. I figured Parther should have at least a first mate with him on his quest of scientific villainy.

Powers inspired by the recent "Jumper" movie. Though if anyone has seen the movie and read the original books you should notice a significant difference. Unlike in Jumper where the person uses their own body as the "warping medium" Malcolm produces warmholes entirely seperate from his body. So he doesn't technically teleport, but creates warmholes "to" teleport.

The picture on the top isn't what Malcolm is "suppose" to look like. It was just line art trace of a random profile I googled. The point of the pic on the top is to see how the tattoos run across Malcolm's cheek.

And about the abilities in One Piece being 'genetic.' I'll mention again, I'm not the most up-to-date and imformed One Piece fan but based on my decent wiki-research, is no mentioning of 'genetically' past traits from the devil fruit, which I find leaves the idea open.

Plus I didn't come across any Devil Fruit characters who had...well...had any kids...let alone have them while possessing the Devil Fruit powers. And considering the Devil Fruit powers of Marshal Teach, it is considered as one of the most powerful and has all these side powers, such as cancelling the powers of another devil fruit user by physical touch. I'm like....well this can't be too farfetched. >.>'
